Summer Intensive Program
Our summer intensive program is specially designed for rising third through rising fifth graders. This program will teach students important reading and writing strategies utilizing the Orton-Gillingham methodology.

Summer Enrichment Program
Our award-winning summer enrichment program is back! This program will teach students important reading and writing strategies utilizing the Orton-Gillingham methodology. We will also address speech and language skills, and end each session with a fun STEAM activity! We admit rising kindergarteners through rising second graders.

Please email us if you are interested in registering your child for our award-winning summer enrichment program.
We will send you the registration forms, which include a section for you to specify which week(s) your child will attend. Your credit card is required to proceed with registration, as a 50 percent tuition deposit will be charged in order to secure your spot. The remaining balance will be charged on the first day that your child attends our summer enrichment program.
Children must be potty trained.

About Summer
1. What is your student to teacher ratio?
We will admit 8 students per week for the summer intensive program, and there will be 2 instructors in the classroom. We will admit 12 students per week for the summer enrichment program, and there will be 6 instructors. There will be 2 classrooms with 6 students and 3 instructors.
2. Do you group students by age?
We create small groups based on ability level. Staff members instruct students in small groups, according to learning objectives and levels of instruction.
3. What is the age range for the program?
We admit rising kindergarteners to rising fifth graders. Rising third to rising fifth graders will attend Monday - Friday 9 am - 12 pm from June 17 - 28, 2024. Rising kindergarteners to rising second graders will attend Monday - Friday 9 am - 4 pm (9 am - 12 pm or 1 pm - 4 pm for the half day program) from July 8 - August 2, 2024.
4. Do we have to sign up for all of the weeks?
You may sign up for as many weeks as you would like. We are flexible! We understand that some students may attend their local school district's Extended School Year program in the morning and attend our program in the afternoon. Some children may attend our program in the morning and play with their neighborhood friends in the afternoon. You may wish to attend our program for Week #1 and a theater camp for the remainder of the summer. The choice is yours!
5. Do you require a deposit?
Yes, a 50% deposit will be required at the time of registration. The remaining 50% will be charged the first week your child attends the program.
6. Will we receive a report as to how our child is doing?
You will receive a summary report at the end of the summer program.
We have a number of assessments to analyze decoding, encoding, fluency, comprehension, expressive language, receptive language, articulation, and social skills. Please message us if you are interested in a comprehensive assessment at an additional cost.
7. Are you hiring?
We are currently seeking an Intern.
8. Where will the program be located?
Our summer programs are located at 2400 Russell Road Alexandria, VA 22301 at Alexandria Country Day School.
9. How is lunch and recess handled outside?
Our full-day students will participate in lunch and recess outside from noon to 1 PM during the summer enrichment program. There is a playground onsite. Please bring a packed nut-free lunch, snack, and water bottle.
Speech of Cake Refund Policy
Before May 15, families are permitted to make the following changes without incurring a fee:

After May 15, families are permitted to make the following changes without incurring a fee:

No refunds will be made past May 15.
Refunds will not be issued for non-attendance to one or more days of program. There are no refunds for missed days due to changed work or vacation schedules, illness, or other non-emergency reasons. We do not offer proration of fees. If Speech of Cake finds it necessary to unregister a child, a refund will be issued after deduction for days already attended. No full refunds will be issued.
Refunds are electronically credited to the credit card used for payment of the registration fee.
